reggae - Between 1975 and 1977 Daniel Meadows worked as photographer-in-residence to the Borough of Pendle in north-east Lancashire: the towns of Nelson, Colne, Barnoldswick and Earby. There he made a series of extensive documentary studies using photography and audio recordings, including at James Nutter Sons, Bancroft Shed in Barnoldswick, Lancashire. An exhibition is now running at the Four Corners Gallery in Bethnal Green, hopefully it will arrive “up North” soon. The image here is of the weaving shed, the weavers ran up to 24 looms on their eight hour shifts; both my mother and grandmother were weavers in Nelson and Brierfield just down the road; they had to talk to each other whilst at work using sign language. The noise was deafening, enough to make Merzbow’s ears bleed …
